Tommy Li, a selection from his recent exhibition at the Chinese Contemporary Xchange

GOOD Edition introduces the work of Tommy Li - a selection from his recent exhibition at the Chinese Contemporary Xchange, Toronto.

Both "Time of Thorn" and "Year of Mold" are works derived from the "Mao Series" which is based on the Chinese political icon Chairman Mao Zedong. Li is a keen collector and has a large collection of Mao Zedong's statues he gathered over the years. Mao has always been his inspiration, an enigmatic figure, powerful and evil at the same time. Li is not apologetic to borrow this most recognizable figure to examine his core theme - consumerism in the contemporary society.

Tommy Li is one of Hong Kong's most celebrated designers among the new generation, over the course of his career, Li has garnered close to 500 awards from around the world for his work. A graduate of Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s School of Design, Li is a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale. His work has been shown in Hong Kong, China, Japan, Belgium and most recently Canada.
