Wong Hung-Fei - The Mammals series

The "Mammal series" is based on a series of snap shots taken in a zoo in Tsingtao (China) when Wong was doing an assignment there. After applying some brush strokes with toners on their surfaces, these ordinary scenes become brimming with life - the surreal landscapes that Wong shows great expertise in creating.

Wong's creative life began in the late nineties. Noted for his poetic approach to imagery, Wong's work is neither grounded from academic tradition nor loaded with big issues. Through his camera, he has the ability to transform the mundane into the magical. Most of Wong's works are shot with a point-and-shoot camera, no staging, no fancy big themes. His "found' sittings isolated themselves as film sets of his personal world, the strange and indefinable world that keeps appearing in his dreams.
