Indomitable images

There are some images just stuck in your head for your whole life. Here are two typical examples: the famous Pulitzer Prize winning photograph taken from the Vietnam War by Nick Ut, and the self-portrait of Frida Kahlo. We have the good opportunity in knowing Joyce Lau, an artist based in Toronto re-working on these two famous images in some extraordinary ways.

The two images (as silhouette cut-outs) Napalm and Frida were produced in 2005, and issued by GOOD ART FOUNDATION as GOOD Edition in 2007. I was captured by the horrifying beauty that Joyce was able to convey - in her intervention to both iconic work. From the silent cries of a burnt child to a woman's tender desire for a baby...the choice of paper was no coincidence. In fact the paper itself has some amazing history - it is vintage wrapping paper produced in 1965 for the World's Fair.
