Viktor Mitic - "Abstract #343", in edition of 30

This GOOD Edition of Viktor Mitic's work is titled "Abstract #343", and is one among a series of ten large scale oil paintings he finished in 2006. It is now featured in a current exhibition "Interweaving Symbols" at G+ GALLERIES. The actual Abstract #343 oil painting carries a dimension of approximately 8 feet by 16 feet. In its less-packed surface float numerous symbols with primal flavours, each embroiled in mystic connotation. Pigments dripped freely in the lower masked-out area, forming imaginary animal-like silhouettes.

To Mitic, the canvas was a site of conversion where his paintings went through extreme intense but highly organized activities to experience a storm of personal, social and mystical impulses. In the artist's own words,"Confronting the surface of a canvas is not easy - it is a mental and physical struggle, a place where artist must constantly question the veracity of his vision. By questioning the "norm' and examining reality he engages and exposes the essence of his visual interpretations."

Viktor Mitic engaged in painting since he was five years old and received his formal art training at the University of Novi Sad in Serbia from 1988 to 1990. After moving to Canada he graduated from Sheridan College and University of Toronto in 1995. Viktor Mitic has participated in numerous exhibitions from 1991 to the present. His work is in many public and private collections as well as in the collection of the former and present leaders of Canada - Jean Chretien and Stephen Harper.
