This print is one of a series of 14 prints to date (and still in development) that forms the suite “Traces in the Wood”.
Although Aine works from a printmaker’s perspective - she has incorporated digital technology in her work since undertaking postgraduate studies in Barcelona and London.
With this series she has utilised trace monotype and scans of tinted wood panels. The image represents the condition of a refugee depicted as a misaligned skeletal figure, pulling on a string with “lady luck”, the rabbit. and in between is the hearts desire – a simple home. Pink is the choice of colour for this very human narrative reflecting the visceral and often painful struggle to achieve success.
Aine was raised in the south of Ireland and undertook the majority of her studies in Fine art in London. She lived there for more than 15 years and has recently moved to Edinburgh with her architect partner. She has participated in numerous exhibitions and created intaglio based print works in the main often incorporating digital imagery printed onto lightweight specialist Japanese paper into the work. Outcomes include printmaking based installations as well as artists books and printmaking based objects. Her subject matter is a reflection on existence in figurative form with a touch of the mytho-poetic, which reflects her research interests.
The recently published book by Richard Noyce "Printmaking on the Edge" features Aine’s art practice, particularly focussing on her installation work.
